IRVINE, Calif. -- Azusa Pacific wasn't able to answer a first-half goal from Concordia, snapping the Cougars' four-game win streak with a 1-0 defeat Wednesday afternoon in Irvine.
The Cougars were held scoreless for the first time since Pacific West Conference play began over a month ago, scoring in nine straight games before Concordia posted the shutout.
Megan Hussey scored in the 38th minute, getting behind the Cougar defense to collect a pass from McKenna Carrillo and put it into the left side of the net from about 13 yards out.
Azusa Pacific put four of its six shots on goal, but Concordia goalkeeper Kaelyn Whitcomb was able to save all four. Freshman defender Christine Messner took three shots, all on goal, while Kennedy Christie came off the bench for two shots and Cara Scammon took one shot.
Concordia took 16 shots, putting eight on goal, as sophomore goalkeeper Tatum French registered seven saves.
The Cougars remain in second place in the PacWest standings at 5-2-1 (16 points) with an overall record of 5-8-1. Azusa Pacific wraps up the week with its final road game of the season when it visits Biola for a Cornerstone Cup matchup on Saturday, Oct. 27, at 7:30 p.m. The final week of the regular season features home games against Notre Dame de Namur (Oct. 29) and Point Loma (Nov. 3).
