SANTA CLARA, CALIF. -- Azusa Pacific concluded their 2017 campaign losing 12-4 to No. 3 Loyola Marymount University at the Golden Coast Conference tournament. The Cougars finished 14-15 overall with a 3-4 record in conference play.
The Cougars made program history walking away from the tournament in fourth place, the highest the Cougars have ever finished their season. Along with placing fourth, the teams Megan Myers led the team with four assists and eight total point earning All-Tournament honors, the first player in schools history to do so.
Results
The first quarter ended the Cougars taking a 3-2 lead over the Lions as Mar Pastor Alvarez found the back of the net twice and Britt Harris scored a power play goal.
Azusa Pacific was shut out in the second quarter as the Lions scored three times, twice on power play goals.
The Lions found the net three more times in the third quarter to extend their lead to 12. Towards the end of the quarter, Megan Myers notched what would be the Cougars final goal of the season.
Seniors Megan Myers and Alex Paxton collegiate career campaign came to an end after both made an appearance in every game this season.
Myers has been a key part of the team since her freshman year when she played every game as a true freshman recording eleven multi-goals games. This season was her highest scoring season, leading the team with 43. In Myers four-year career she has registered 136 goals and 105 assists,
Paxton has made an appearance in every game in the last two season. She led the team in field blocks this season and was third in the most steals of a Cougar. In Paxton's four-year she has tallied 51 goals, 31 assists, and 61 steals.
