SURPRISE, Ariz. – The Cougars beat No. 34 Concordia-Irvine 5-1 in the first round of the consolation bracket of the PacWest tournament. Azusa Pacific plays again tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. against the seventh seed Sonoma State University for the first time this season.

In today's matchup against the Eagles, the Cougars swept doubles as starting with
Natalie Johnson and
Lisa Schneider defeating their opponents 8-3 at the No. 1 position. Valeriia Kashina and Jackie Resler recorded an 8-6 win at the No. 2 spot.
Kara Hinton and Tatiana Betancourt won big 9-7 at the No. 3 spot to conclude doubles and helping the Cougars take a 3-0 lead over the Eagles.
Betancourt retired 3-2 at the No. 6 spot to record the Cougars only loss in today's match. Schneider came out victorious 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 2 slot followed by teammate Kashina winning 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 3 position clinching the match for the Cougars.
With Kashina clinching the match the Cougars Johnson, Hinton and Resler's matches went unfinished. Hinton was up one set 7-5, 1-2 when her match was called, Resler was in the middle of coming back in the second set after dropping her first 4-6, 5-3. Johnson faced No. 41 Anastasiia Kuprina winning the first set, trailing the second set 6-3, 0-3.
