CLAREMONT, CALIF. – The Azusa Pacific women's water polo team opened the weekends Claremont Convergence tournament facing the Leopards of La Verne losing 9-6 and dropping 8-7 to the Seawolves of Sonoma State in overtime, bringing their overall record to 4-6.
Game One – La Verne 9, Azusa Pacific 6

The Leopards recorded the game's first goal midway through the first quarter. Soon following, the Cougars Mireia Tutusaus Alcaraz found the net tying the game 1-1. In the last minute of the first La Verne scored again taking a 2-1 lead into the 2nd quarter.
Megan Myers tallied her first goal of the game early in the second quarter to tie the game up 2-2. La Verne's Romero answered back taking the lead 3-2. Shortly after
Alex Paxton registered a goal for the Cougars halfway through the second. The Leopards scored two more times to take a 5-3 lead into halftime.
La Verne capitalized and stretched their lead to 7-3 in the third. Very early in the final quarter,
Britt Harris narrowed the score bringing the Cougars three points behind the Leopards to 7-4. Tutusaus Alcaraz added to the score bring the Cougars within a two-point reach of La Verne 7-5. Towards the end of the game the score bounced back-and-forth between the two teams seeing the Leopards Romero recording another goal bringing the score to 8-5, Azusa Pacific's Myers found the back of the net for the second time making the score 8-6, but in the end the Leopards recorded a ninth goals to walk away with a 9-6 win over the Cougars.

Game Two – Sonoma State 9, Azusa Pacific 6

The Cougars started the game off by silencing the Seawolves in the first and registering a goal from Harris.
The second quarter saw Sonoma State scoring first, followed by two Azusa Pacific goals made by
Annalise Batcheller and
Carinna Prince bringing the score to 3-1 going into the half.
The Cougars came out scoring in the third, recording three back-to-back goals courtesy of Myers, Harris, and Batcheller. The Seawolve answered back by scoring their very on three back-to-back goals. Azusa Pacific holding onto a four-point lead heading into the fourth 6-4.
Sonoma State silenced the Cougars while tying the it up 6-6 forcing the game into overtime.
Both team recorded goals in the fifth but eventually the Seawolves came out on top notching the Cougars 8-7.

The Cougars return to the pool Saturday at the Claremont Convergence facing McKendree University at 2:15 p.m. and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges at 6:00 p.m.
