SAN DIEGO – It was a dynamic duo that spelled trouble for the Cougars.
A strong third period was a big help for California Baptist as they pulled away from Azusa Pacific en route to a 13-5 victory in a quarterfinal match-up at the Golden Coast Conference tournament.
On Saturday the Cougars will play the loser of the Fresno Pacific/Pacific contest on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. at the Aztec Aquaplex on the campus of San Diego State.

The Lancer tandem of Hannah Evans and Valerie Spezzaferri were a headache for Azusa Pacific as they account for eight of the California Baptist's goals. Each player also had an assist.
Megan Myers led the charge for Azusa Pacific has she found the back of the cage four times for her eighth multi-goal game of the season. Alba Espinar scored the other goal of the Cougars.
After the Lancers scored the first two goals of the game, Myers found the back of the cage for the first time with 4:36 left in the first quarter. California Baptist made it 3-1 but another Myers tally made the score 3-2 with just over a minute left in the opening frame.
California Baptist began to get some separation on the scoreboard in the second quarter as they scored twice and the Cougars scoreless. The Lancers scored the first goal of the third stanza but another Myers goal, this one with 6:13 left, cut the Azusa Pacific deficit down to 6-3.
Unfortunately for the Cougars the third seeded Lancers scored the final three goals of the period in taking a 9-3 edge into the final eight minutes. Azusa Pacific couldn't trim their deficit significantly as California Baptist won the period by a 5-2 tally.
