Held Down by the Rivals

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – In their regular season finale the Cougars just couldn't match their rivals effort.

California Baptist just ahead early and never looked back in posting a 13-3 win on Thursday evening.

Entering the contest as the 23rd ranked in the nation the Lancers rode momentum from senior night festivities to the win.

After their 30 regular season contests, the Cougars record stands at 10-20 while California Baptist improves to 21-10. These two team will face off in the first round of next week Golden Coast Conference tournament. Azusa Pacific will be the sixth seed with the Lancers holding down the No. 3 spot in the eight-team tournament at San Diego State.

Hanna Evans, the top goal scorer in the conference, scored a game high five times while teammates Marnie Kavern and Laura Kocsis each added a hat trick.

There were 17 ejections in the game between the rivals, with California Baptist taking advantage of the extra-person attack opportunities, scoring on five of its six 6-on-5 opportunities. Azusa Pacific scored twice on their 6-on-5 chances.

Annalise Batcheller scored twice while Mar Pastor added a net-finder for the Cougar goals.
