FRESNO, Calif. – Winning streak continued.
Azusa Pacific claimed its seventh straight win against Fresno Pacific by posting an 8-6 victory on Saturday afternoon.
The Cougars started strong, and despite a brief rally from Fresno Pacific, as the dominated the play on Saturday. Despite being whistled for 13 exclusions, the Cougars defense stood strong as they allowed just two goals while being down a player.
Azusa Pacific's offense was well spread out as five different players scored. Britt Harris, Mar Pastor and Arianne Yeo each found the back of the cage twice in the victory. Yeo also chipped in two assists.
Pastor scored the only goal of the first quarter as the sophomore found the back the net with four ticks left in the game clock. The lower scorer game continued into the next period. After the team tied it with 5:56 left in the quarter, Harris and Yeo beat the goalie as the Cougar took a 3-1 lead at the halfway mark.
In the third quarter, the Cougars really started to assert themselves. Pastor scored 17 seconds in the frame then, despite a goal from the Sunbirds, Yeo scored again while Ashley Taylor posted the final net finder of the stanza as Azusa Pacific took a comfortable 6-2 lead.
Alba Espinar gave the Cougars their largest lead of the game as she scored with 7:19 left in the game. Fresno Pacific mounted a brief rally but never pulled closer than the final score.
Katie Margot posted a six-save game to earn the win in front of the net.
The Cougars played their final regular season game on Thursday when they travel to California Baptist for a 7 p.m. contest.
