LA JOLLA, Calif. -- A physically battered Azusa Pacific took its second loss in as many days to a team the Cougars defeated earlier in the season, falling to UC San Diego 5-0 on Friday afternoon.

Azusa Pacific claimed a narrow 5-4 victory over the Tritons earlier in the season thanks to a heroic effort by Jackie Resler, but the No. 4 team in the West Region got some revenge on the Cougars to split the season series.

The Cougars, ranked No. 3 in the West Region got swept in doubles, which has been a rarity for Azusa Pacific. However, the Cougars lost each set by a score of 8-3.

In singles, the Tritons got the first two wins to clinch the upset against the Cougars. Resler andLisa Schneider had each won the first set of their matches before the Tritons clinched the win.

Azusa Pacific drops to 13-6 on the season, but returns to Azusa for a chance to take on Cal State L.A. on Monday.
