AZUSA, Calif.- Azusa Pacific was able to take NCAA Division III #1 Emory to the wire, but ultimately fell 5-4 at the Cougar Tennis Complex.

The Cougars scored two doubles wins, as the Cougar tandem of senior Jan Meyer and freshman Olger Van Gent dominated freshman James Spaulding and sophomore Scott Rubinstein of Emory 8-1 at No. 1 doubles. APU also scored a win at No. 3 doubles where the Cougars Christian Schmid and junior Shepherd Newcomb bested sophomore Alec Josepher and sophomore Andrew Harrington of Emory. The Eagles took a victory at No. 2 doubles. Freshman Jonathan Jemison and senior Rafe Mosetick defeated junior Pascal Engel and freshman Marnix Pluim of APU to prevent a Cougar sweep of the doubles matches.
At No. 1 singles, APU's Meyer won easily 6-2, 6-2 and No. 3 singles saw Cougar junior Alan Leahy win 6-2, 7-6 (7-1) over junior Aman Manji. At No. 6 singles Emory's Harrington bested Cougar Pluim 6-1, 6-4.
No. 2, No. 4, and No. 5 singles all needed a third set to be resolved, and the Eagles claimed all three matches to ultimately claim the victory.
The Cougars next match is Friday, March 11 at the Cougar Tennis Complex.
