AZUSA, Calif. – With wins in five of their previous six contest, Azusa Pacific was looking to keep the momentum rolling in their home opener.
San Diego State started strong early as they posted a 10-4 victory against the Cougars.
The 18th ranked Aztecs raced out to a 5-0 lead after the opening period and never let Azusa Pacific back into the contest. Alyssa Diancono, a two-time Golden Coast Conference all-league performer, showed her offensive arsenal in the opening frame as she netted a hat trick.
Ashley Taylor put the Cougars on the scoreboard with the first goal of the second stanza. However, San Diego State was able to brush that attempted comeback aside as they scored the final three goals of the quarter.
Azusa Pacific put together a solid third period by outscoring their counterparts 3-1 as Britt Harris, Annalise Batcheller and Taylor each found the back of the cage.
During the final eight minutes, Elizabeth Bilz was the only player to score for either team.
Azusa Pacific fired 15 shots on frame but the goal keeping duo of Rachel Mitchell and Kathleen McDonnell combined to make 11 saves.
Katie Margot blocked 12 shots in front of the cage for the Cougars.
