AZUSA, Calif. -- After defeating Hawai`i Hilo 9-0, Azusa Pacific got swept in doubles for the first time this season by Arizona Christian, but the Cougars came back for their second win of the day on Tuesday afternoon.

Azusa Pacific won all 12 singles matches to improve to 15-3 on the season. The Cougars now have seven consecutive wins as they chase their mark of a 10-match winning streak from last season.

As the Cougars wrapped up the 9-0 win over Hawai`i Hilo, the doubles matches began against Arizona Christian, and the Firestorm took advantage of the opportunity when the Cougars mixed up the doubles lineup. Arizona Christian won all three doubles putting the Cougars in a 3-0 hole for the first time this season.

However, Azusa Pacific looked as if it had been there many times before, eventually making the win look routine, winning all six singles matches in straight sets.

Olger van Gent came back from a 4-1 deficit in the first set for a 7-6, 6-2 victory at No. 5 singles. That came just moments after Shepherd Newcomb clinched the victory at No. 6 singles, winning 6-4, 6-3.

Junior Alan Leahy also overcame an early deficit en route to a 7-5, 6-0 triumph at No. 3 singles marking his team-best eighth consecutive singles win.

Jan Meyer was the first one off the singles court after skipping doubles. He won 6-2, 6-1. Christian Schmid also skipped doubles and then responded with a dominant singles performance, winning 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Pascal Engel didn't have any trouble in his win either, claiming a 6-1, 6-0 win that tied the score at 3-3.

Against Hawai`i Hilo, the Cougars were nearly flawless, dropping only one set. Leahy and Engel won for a third time in a row in doubles 8-4. Leahy then got off to a slow start in singles but eventually ran away with the 5-7, 6-0, 10-5 victory. Engel won his singles match 6-3, 6-1.

Roberto Luconi earned his second singles victory of the season, winning 6-0, 5-1 by retirement at No. 5 singles. It is the freshman's first win since the season opener to remain undefeated in his freshman campaign.

Stefan Kingsley got his second win in as many days, winning 6-1, 6-3 at No. 6 singles to also remain undefeated this season. Schmid faced a tricky left-handed opponent, but eventually took care of business with a 6-3, 6-2 win and Meyer won his No. 1 singles match 6-2, 6-2.

The Cougars will take a week off before travelling to San Diego for matches against UC San Diego and Point Loma. Then the Cougars return to Azusa to wrap up the regular season, playing Concordia on April 8 and Claremont Mudd-Scripps on April 9.
