AZUSA, Calif. - To close out their home opening weekend the Cougars competed against Cal State Northridge and Cal State Bakersfield on Saturday.\
Cal State Northridge 14, Azusa Pacific 2
Despite an early meeting this season were the teams played a tight contest throughout, the Matadors scored early and played strong defense to post the victory.

Cal State Northridge scored the games first 12 goals and held the Cougars off the scoreboard until the fourth quarter.
In that final frame Britt Harris and Alba Espinar scored the Cougars goals.
Cal State Bakersfield 10, Azusa Pacific 7
The Roadrunners did just enough to keep the Cougars at arms length to get the win.

Cal State Bakersfield scored the opening two goals but Britt Harris found the back of the cage before the closing buzzer of the first quarter.
During the second quarter Cal State Bakersfield put some separation between them and the Cougars. The Roadrunners grabbed a 5-1 edge but a feisty Azusa Pacific squad got a goal from Mar Pastor to remain close as the visitors took a 5-2 lead into the intermission break.
After the Roadrunners made the score 7-2, the Cougars were able to score the final goals of the period as Ashley Taylor and Alba Espinar got their deficit down to 7-4 with eight minutes left. Espinar found the back of the cage for the opening goal of the fourth quarter.
A Kristen Jensen net finder with 5:29 left in the contest put the visitors back in front by a three-goal margin at 8-5. However, the Cougars continued to claw away. Espinar tallied a hat trick at the 3:58 mark and Azusa Pacific was down just two goals. However, the home team couldn't get their deficit under that two goal edge.
