AZUSA, Calif. – The Cougars were pushed from the get-go in Saturday's match against Western New Mexico before grinding out a tight win.

Azusa Pacific pulled out two crucial wins in doubles that proved to be vital late in winning the team match 5-4.
The first doubles match off the court saw Jan Meyer and Olger Van Gent win their first match together in convincing fashion 8-2.
Western New Mexico made the team match extremely interesting as doubles play came to a close. The Mustang tandem fought of Christian Schmid and Shepherd Newcomb 9-7 to tie the match at 1-1. Pascal Engel and Marnix Pluim fought tooth-and-nail before grabbing a 9-8 (4) victory in the middle doubles match-up.
After taking two of three doubles matches, the Cougars were able to seal the team win by winning in a default at the No. 5 singles match then tallying straight sets win at the top two spot. Jan Meyer, the nation's top ranked player, continued to roll along as he notched a 6-1, 6-2 victory at the No. 1 position. Schmid won by the same scored to for Azusa Pacific's fifth team point.
The Mustangs won the remaining three matches. Tristian Da Lio won a spirited contest at the No. 3 slot 6-4, 7-5 while Pablo Sanitbanez recorded a straight set win at the last singles position.
The tightest match came when Liam Fraboulet rallied past Pascal Engel 2-6, 6-3, 10-8 in the fourth spot during the final singles match on the courts.
