Regular Season Wrap

SANTA CLARA – Coming to an end.

It was the final weekend of play for all Golden Coast Conference schools as Santa Clara handed Azusa Pacific a 14-6 setback on Saturday afternoon.

Azusa Pacific concludes the regular season with a 10-15 overall mark and 2-4 record in league play.

The Cougars will await the rest of the results from the final weekend of league play before knowing their first opponent for next week's conference tournament. The Championships gets underway Thursday afternoon at the University of the Pacific in Stockton. 

Saturday's game featured a combined 15 extra-person attacks. Santa Clara (14-13, 2-4) converted on two of their eight chances while the Cougars scored once in seven attempts.

After an evenly play opening period where the Broncos took a 4-3 lead, the home began to creep away. Santa Clara was sitting in the catbirds seat after outscoring the Cougars by a 3-1 count in both the second and third quarters. The Broncos completed a strong offensive effort by outscoring Azusa Pacific 4-1 in the last eight minutes to seal the win. 

Katie Margot faced 21 shots in front of the cage, blocking away seven of them.

The Cougars were able to get 30 shots off the Broncos defense was up to the challenge. Ashley Taylor found the back of the cage twice.
