ORANGE, Calif. -- Azusa Pacific scored 11 second-half goals, including a trio of second-half tallies from senior Michelle Lutz, to post a 17-11 road victory over NCAA Division III's No. 7-ranked Chapman Saturday.

The win was the 11th in the past 14 games for the Cougars, whose 2-8 start included a trio of 1-goal defeats. Over the past month, Azusa Pacific has tallied double-digit scoring in 10 of its 14 matches, and the Cougars reached 10 goals in Saturday's win midway through the third quarter.

Lutz and fellow senior Ashley Elven each scored a game-high 4 goals, leading the Cougars back from a pair of 2-goal deficits in the first half. Elven scored back-to-back goals in the final 2 minutes of the second quarter, putting away the go-ahead score with just 13 seconds left in the half to give Azusa Pacific a 6-5 halftime edge.

Freshman Alyssa Hess opened up the second-half scoring with 1 of her 3 goals in the game, and Lutz completed the 5-goal swing with her first of 3 second-half goals to give the Cougars an 8-5 advantage. Chapman finally broke a scoreless drought that lasted over 8 minutes when Juliana Botting cut the Azusa Pacific lead to 8-6 midway through the third quarter, but Hess and Elven answered with consecutive goals in less than a minute to push the lead to 10-6.

Hess scored all 3 of her goals in an 8-minute stretch between the second and third quarters, and sophomore Jennifer Horchler scored 2 of her 3 goals after halftime to lead the Cougars to an 11-6 second-half scoring advantage.

With the win, Azusa Pacific improves to 13-11 overall heading into its final 2 regular-season contests. The Cougars visit California Baptist on Wednesday, April 6, before closing out the regular season at home against NCAA Divisin III No. 6-ranked Whittier on Saturday, April 9.
