Cougars Continue GSAC Streak

AZUSA, Calif. -- The NAIA's No. 5-ranked Azusa Pacific extended its winning streak to 4 matches with its second consecutive 9-0 win, this time sweeping Biola in a Golden State Athletic Conference women's tennis match.

The Cougars posted a combined score of 72-11 in singles play, which followed a dominant doubles sweep by a combined margin of 24-4. Leading the way was senior Sheryl Bon-Bakalobv, who won every game contested in the No. 1 positions for both doubles and singles play. Bon-Bakalov teamed up with freshman Emily Harris for the 8-0 win in doubles, and she knocked off Biola's Kia Choi in the top singles spot by a 6-0, 6-0 score.

Three other Cougars won a set by a perfect 6-0 score. Freshman Kim Koetterheinrich played No. 3 singles and senior Casey Wetzig played No. 4, and both won all 6 games of their opening sets, and freshman Molly Ruby finished off a straight-sets win with a perfect 6-0 second set.

Sophomore Sarita Adhikary remained perfect in singles play this season, improving to 4-0 on the year with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles, as did Wetzig, whose No. 4 singles victory improved her individual season record to 9-0.

With the win, Azusa Pacific improves to 9-1 overall, 6-1 in GSAC play, while Biola drops to 2-7 overall, 1-4 GSAC. The Cougars host NCAA Div. II Grand Canyon (Ariz.) University Friday at 1:30 p.m., the first of 3 consecutive non-conference matchups at home before continuing GSAC play with a March 18 visit to Point Loma Nazarene.
