Biography
THIS YEAR: Senior Casey Wetzig closes out a strong career as a captain of one of the most talented squads in program history … Has played throughout the singles lineup in her career and her game translates well into doubles … Is well-conditioned and possesses good strength that translates into powerful strokes … Has a fiery competitive nature and uses that toughness and determination to her advantage.
2010 (Junior): Turned in an outstanding season and led the team in combined wins, going 16-2 in singles and 14-5 in doubles … Had an 11-match singles winning streak in the middle of the season, including 9 victories in straight sets … Played the bulk of the season at No. 5 singles and No. 2 doubles … In addition winning 10 of 11 matches at No. 5, went 5-1 at No. 4 and also won her only match at the No. 3 position … Played all but 1 doubles match at the No. 2 spot with Leah Hoffee and won her only other doubles appearance, an 8-4 victory over Biola at No. 1 with Natalie McNall … Never lost consecutive matches in either doubles or singles play … Posted straight-set singles win along with an 8-4 doubles victory in NAIA Tournament second-round win over Shorter.
2009 (Sophomore): Battled through a tough sophomore campaign, going 6-11 in singles play with all but 2 matches decided in straight sets … Was 7-10 in doubles, playing 15 times at the top doubles position with 5 different partners … Collected 4 of her 6 singles wins at No. 2 singles, including back-to-back wins to open the season … Split a pair of 3-set matches against California Baptist’s Racquel Vescovi, who finished the year ranked No. 32 in the ITA’s NAIA national singles rankings … Was 3-1 when partnered with Sheryl Bon-Bakalov in doubles and notched a 2-1 doubles mark with Leah Hoffee … In back-to-back matches on consecutive days, won both of her singles and doubles matches in victories over Lewis-Clark State and The Master’s.
2008 (Freshman): Saw action in all 23 matches for the Cougars … Completed singles play with a 12-9 record, starting the season at the No. 3 spot with a 2-2 record before finishing at No. 2 with a 10-7 mark … Was ranked No. 41 in the ITA’s final NAIA national singles rankings … Won her first 7 matches at No. 2 singles, including 5 victories over GSAC opponents … Was 15-7 in doubles, splitting time between 4 partners, including a perfect 5-0 midseason stint with Kim Tran at No. 2 … Won 10 consecutive doubles matches between 3 different partners … Posted a clean sweep with 8-0 doubles and 6-0, 6-0 singles wins to lead Azusa Pacific’s 7-2 win over Biola … Helped secure a 5-1 NAIA Tournament victory over Westmont with a 9-8 tiebreaker win at No. 2 doubles.
