AZUSA, CALIF. -- It was all Cougars from the beginning, as Kevin Daley blocked Fresno Pacific's opening field goal attempt and then finished the job on the other end, slamming home 2 of his game-high 24 points to lead the NAIA's No. 7-ranked Azusa Pacific to a 97-72 win over Fresno Pacific.
Daley added 11 rebounds on the night to record his third straight double-double.
"It feels good to help the team win," said Daley. "If I were doing the same thing and we were losing, it would be a different story. We're winning, so I am happy."
The Sunbirds never got closer than 18 points in the second-half as K.C. Tanner's late heroics brought the crowd of 913 to its feet. Tanner had 3 blocks on 3 consecutive Sunbird trips down the court late in the second half.
Jerome Joseph also had a big night, adding 21 points for his seventh straight 20-point game.
"The team is finding me, and I'm just knocking down shots," said Joseph. "I'm just trying to shoot the ball with confidence and do what I can to help the team win."
Josh Snow and Nick French were the bright spots for Fresno Pacific as they each scored 14 points.
Azusa Pacific went on a 9-2 run early in the first half to take a 17-7 lead with 13:06 remaining in the opening half, and the Cougars never looked back, taking a 50-29 lead into the locker room at halftime. Daley led the Cougar charge with 16 first-half points.
"I thought we were ready to play tonight," said Cougar head coach Bill Odell. "We are learning a little bit more about what it is like to play in the GSAC, that you better be ready to play every night."
The Cougars remain unbeaten at home this season through 10 contests in the Cougardome. With the win, Azusa Pacific improves to 15-3 overall, 5-1 in the GSAC, while Fresno Pacific drops to 1-5 in GSAC play, 10-10 overall.
