INDUSTRY, CALIF. -- Azusa Pacific used its strength at the top of the lineup, and pulled out 2 singles matches in 3 sets, to defeat Lewis-Clark State (Ida.), 6-1, in a nonconference men's tennis match Saturday afternoon at Industry Hills Tennis Center.
The Cougars rolled to the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and 2 doubles. Nathan Goodman and Martin Dvoracek led the way at No. 1, 8-3, and Kavan Hahn and Ben Medina beat Fabio Almeida and Kyle Steiling, 8-2, at No. 2 doubles.
Azusa Pacific dominated the top of the Warriors lineup with easy wins at No. 1 and 2 singles. Dvoracek beat Tony Hunt, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 1 and Jussi Ala-Opas defeated Vinnie Vieira at No. 2, 6-4, 6-2.
The Cougars pulled out 2 matches in 3 sets at No. 5 and 6 singles. Hahn rallied after losing the second set to win, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, while Holger Rudl came from a set down to defeat Marcus Kastel, 3-6, 7-6, 6-1.
The lone win for Lewis-Clark State came at No. 3 singles. Dermot O'Grady defeated Goodman, 6-3, 6-0.
With the win, Azusa Pacific improves to 13-4 on the year, while Lewis-Clark State falls to 13-5 overall. The Cougars are next in action Wednesday against Brown University at 4 p.m.
