AZUSA, Calif. — No. 38 Azusa Pacific men's tennis bounced back in strong fashion Monday afternoon, defeating Westmont 5–2 at the Munson & Bayougian Tennis Complex to improve to 18–5 on the season.
The Cougars took control early by sweeping the doubles point. Soeren Grandke and Ben Behrend led the way with a 6–3 win at No. 1, followed by David James Brownlee and Viktor Van Craenenbroeck with another 6–3 victory at No. 2 to clinch the point. The third doubles match was left unfinished with APU in position.
With momentum established, Azusa Pacific carried its energy into singles play.
No. 20 Soeren Grandke delivered a dominant performance at the top of the lineup, cruising to a 6–0, 6–4 victory at No. 1 singles. David James Brownlee followed with a commanding 6–0, 6–3 win at No. 3, giving the Cougars a firm grip on the match.
After Westmont picked up a point at No. 2, Azusa Pacific responded with control across the middle courts. Joan Crespo battled through a tight match at No. 4, winning 7–6, 7–6 to secure a pivotal point, while Jacob Rudd-Hicks added a convincing 6–2, 6–2 victory at No. 5 to push APU to the brink.
Westmont earned its second point at No. 6, but the Cougars had already secured the win behind their depth and consistency.
