The Streak Continues

Cougars secure doubles point early and win five singles courts to continue strong home stretch.

AZUSA, Calif. — No. 37 Azusa Pacific men's tennis delivered another strong performance at home Wednesday afternoon, defeating Missouri-St. Louis 6–1 at the Munson & Bayougian Tennis Complex to improve to 15–4 on the season.

The Cougars set the tone early by capturing the doubles point. The nationally ranked duo of Soeren Grandke and Mathys Pinoit opened with a 6–3 win at No. 1 doubles, followed by David James Brownlee and Joan Crespo securing a tight 7–5 victory at No. 2 to clinch the point.
Order of finish (doubles): 1, 2

With momentum on their side, Azusa Pacific carried control into singles play.

No. 15 Soeren Grandke was first off the court with a dominant 6–0, 6–2 win at No. 2 singles, quickly extending the Cougars' lead. Joan Crespo followed with a composed 7–5, 6–1 victory at No. 4, and Ben Behrend battled back after dropping the opening set to win in three at No. 3, pushing APU closer to the clinch.

The match was sealed at the top of the lineup as Mathys Pinoit fought through a competitive three-set battle before narrowly falling, but Azusa Pacific had already secured enough points behind its depth across the lineup.

The Cougars continued to add on late points, with Jacob Rudd-Hicks earning a straight-set win at No. 5 and Christopher Marci closing out the day with a 6–2, 6–2 victory at No. 6.

Order of finish (singles): 2, 4, 3, 1, 5, 6

Missouri-St. Louis earned its lone point at No. 1 singles, but Azusa Pacific controlled the remainder of the courts to secure the convincing victory.
