Two freshmen and a sophomore scored goals while 2 other freshmen and a sophomore protected a shut out. The end result: Azusa Pacific 4, Concordia 0.
Freshmen Jacob Ward and Jordan Jones sandwiched goals around sophomore Jon Oliva's 2 counters to lead the surging Cougars to their season-high third straight win. Ward scored on a header off a corner kick by All-American Matt Evans to put the Cougars up 1-0 in the 31st minute. It was his sixth goal of the season.
With less than 2 minutes left in the first half, Oliva knocked in goal keeper deflection of an Addi Schram shot, giving the Cougars a 2-0 lead at the half.
Oliva, who entered the game with just 1 goal scored in his 2-year career, scored again less than 4 minutes into the second half, converting another deflection.
Jones completed the scoring with his second goal in as many games, rifling a shot from 15 yards out after receiving a pass from senior Josh Hodges.
Meanwhile in the net, sophomore Scott Strahammer (45 minutes) teamed with freshmen Mark Becher (31 minutes)and Ricardo Gonzalez (14 minutes) to register the Cougars' second shut out of the season.
The Cougars dominated the game, collecting 29 shots while limiting the Eagles to just 6.
Azusa Pacific has now won 9 straight over Concordia, last losing to the Eagles in 1991. Additionally, the Cougars have out-scored the Eagles 18-0 in the past 4 meetings.
