APU Throws Dominates at the RCC Invitational

Rakocevic Sets Stadium Record as Throws Unit Dominates at RCC Invitational.

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — It was a "moving day" for the Azusa Pacific throwing program as the Cougars headed to Riverside City College on Friday. In a high-stakes Invitational atmosphere, the APU women stormed their way to a fourth-place team finish (72 points), while the men secured seventh (50 points) in a loaded field.

The story of the day? A changing of the guard in the record books and a clinic in the throwing rings.

THE HEADLINER: New Queen of the Ring

Kristina Rakocevic is making a habit of excellence. Fresh off a dominant performance last week, Rakocevic went into a field of 28 competitors in the Women's Discus and didn't just win—she made history.

With a massive toss of 51.68m, Rakocevic claimed the gold and broke the RCC Stadium record. In a poetic twist, the record she surpassed belonged to her own teammate, Hannah Richardson. The mark further solidifies Rakocevic's status as the woman to beat in NCAA Division II this season.

THE "THROWS U" POWER HOUR

While Rakocevic was rewriting the stadium history books, the rest of the Cougar throwing squad was busy racking up podium finishes against deep fields:

  • Hammer Time for Richardson: Proving she is still one of the most versatile threats in the country, Hannah Richardson bounced back from the discus to dominate the Women's Hammer Throw. In a massive field of 24 athletes, Richardson took first place with a top mark of 50.74m.

  • Matteucci Makes His Mark: On the men's side, Stefano Matteucci held his own in a gritty Hammer Throw competition. Out of 18 competitors, Matteucci secured a third-place finish with a toss of 53.03m.

  • Olson Stays Hot: Brett Olson continued his consistent outdoor campaign, navigating a crowded field of 30 throwers in the Men's Discus to grab third place with a best effort of 47.55m.
