Can't Stop This Leke

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – It took him awhile this season to find the back of the net, but once Leke Ademola scored there has been no stopping to the senior forward from England.

Ademola scored 2 more times today within a 7-minute span late in the first half to lead a resurgent Azusa Pacific squad to a 3-1 victory over Cal Lutheran Saturday afternoon at William Rolland Stadium at the CLU campus.

The victory is Azusa Pacific's third straight and clearly indicates that the Cougars have snapped out of a funk in which they went 0-3-1 over a 2-week span to end September.  In this current 3-game streak, the Cougars have out-scored their foe 7-3, and Ademola has scored 4 of the goals, including the game-winner earlier this week vs. La Verne.

Ademola entered the season as the central figure of the Cougar offense, but he was shutout in APU's first 2 games.  However, in game 3, he made up for lost time by registering his first collegiate hat-trick in a 5-0 win over Lewis & Clark.  He came back in the next game and tallied another hat-trick in the Cougars' win over Life Pacific.  And he hasn't looked back.  Ademola has scored in 9 of the Cougars' past 10 games and has 4 multi-goal contests.

Ademola broke the seal on a scoreless game today in the 34th minute when he turned on dime and fired a rocket from 16 yards out in upper near corner of the goal to give APU a 1-0 lead.  Seven minutes later he took a pass down the middle of the field, and sprinted past the Kingsmen defense, tapping the ball by CLU keeper Cody Ross to give Azusa Pacific a 2-0 lead at the half.

Early in the second half, Azusa Pacific practically wrapped up the victory when freshman Adrina Luna out of Jurupa Hills High, scored his first collegiate goal, rifling a Gabe Schock cross from 10 yards out to put APU up 3-0.
The Kingsmen tallied their own goal less than 4 minutes, but they could not crack the Cougar defense again over the final 30 minutes of play.

Cal Lutheran out-shot Azusa Pacific, 14-11, though the Cougars had a 7-5 advantage on frame.  The Kingsmen also had 5 corner kicks to the Cougars' 2.

Ademola now leads the National Christian College Athletic Association with 15 goals on the season and is just 2 goals away from breaking into the Top Ten for most goals in a season by a Cougar.

With the victory, just the second road win for the Cougars this year, Azusa Pacific improves to 7-4-2 on the season, while Cal Lutheran falls to 4-6-3.  APU returns home to begin a 3-game homestand which starts Wednesday (Oct. 14) when the Cougars host Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 7 p.m. in the Cougar Soccer Complex.
