Cougars Finish Fifth At Indoor Nationals

Six All-American performances highlight day 3 as Hannah Richardson is crowned Individual Champion in shot put.

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana – After three successful days of competition, Azusa Pacific finished fifth overall at the 2025 DII Indoor Track and Field Nationals with 37 points, marking their second-best finish in the school's NCAA era. Across both the men's and women's teams, six athletes earned All-American honors, including two National Champions.

The weekend also marked the conclusion of the Cougars' ninth consecutive trip to the NCAA Indoor National Championships (excluding 2020 and 2021 due to COVID).

DAY THREE HIGHLIGHTS

Hannah Richardson kicked off the final day of competition by throwing a career-best 16.46m (54-0) in the shot put to be crowned National Champion. She remains second all-time in program history, improving on her former mark of 52 1/4 from 2024.

With her win, she became the fifth indoor individual champion in shot put in school history and the first since Vivian Chukwuemeka won it four years in a row from 2002-05. It was Richardson's second All-American trophy following her fourth-place overall finish in shot put at the 2024 Outdoor Nationals.

Following up her national title in the pentathlon on Thursday, Conde-Turpin ran 8.34 in the 60m hurdles final to finish fourth overall. This marks her fourth indoor All-American award and her eighth overall between both outdoor and indoor competitions (including two second team All-American awards in 2023).

Olivia Alexandre raced her way to a National Runner-up finish in the 800m with a time of 2:06.20. The school record holder clocked a fast first two laps with 1:01.71 and closed her final 200m in 32.05, moving from third to second. She outkicked two other competitors, both of whom finished within 0.05 seconds of her.

MULTIS DOMINATE

Across days one and two of competition, three Cougars finished within the top-five in both the pentathlon and decathlon, each picking up career-bests in individual events along the way.

On the opening day of the Championships, Conde-Turpin broke her own school record and the meet record, finishing with 4,447 points to become the individual champion in the heptathlon. She became the sixth individual champion in the pentathlon in school history, following the remarkable performance of 18-time All-American Nicole Warwick in 2023. Conde-Turpin did so with three consecutive first-place finishes in the 60m hurdles, high jump, and shot put, where she set a career-best mark of 14.04m.

Earning her first All-American trophy, Luisa Fischer finished fifth overall with 3,902 points in the heptathlon. She tied for first in the high jump with Conde-Turpin before earning career-best marks in the shot put and the 60m hurdles.

After seven events over two days of competition, Lincoln Krog finished the heptathlon with 5,433 points, earning fifth place and his first Indoor All-American trophy. Krog has also won three All-American honors in outdoor decathlon competition.

LOOKING AHEAD
The Cougars will now turn their attention to the outdoor track and field season, looking to earn their ninth straight PacWest title in a row. They have all the pieces to do so, especially following a successful indoor campaign this weekend.

On the women's side, Azusa Pacific will look to build on their third-place finish at the 2024 Outdoor National Championships, where they had 11 All-American performances. While the team has lost some key members, including 16-time All-American Nicole Warwick and six-time All-American Alysa Henry in the multis, they still return several All-American athletes. Additionally, the team has bolstered its roster with newcomers like Alexandre, Cross Country All-American Jessica Walzcak, and the promising Emma Hein in the multis, among others.

On the men's side, the Cougars earned their best finish in the NCAA era with a sixth-place showing at the 2024 Outdoor National Championships. They'll look to continue making an impact this year, returning strong distance runners such as 2024 PacWest Individual Champion Felix Perrier (5k and 3000m Steeplechase) and three-time All-Region runner Jared Wright. New addition Maxime Wassmer, who competed in the 400m prelims at Indoor Nationals, is also expected to contribute following a strong indoor season.

After a few rust-buster meets so far this spring, the teams will return to action next weekend at UCLA with the Bob Larsen Distance Carnival on Friday and the Jim Bush Legends Meet on Saturday. You will find meet information here and a tentative schedule of the weekend here.
