Greater Los Angeles County, Calif. - On Saturday,
Felix Perrier and
Nixon Korir ran lifetime bests in the men's steeplechase. Meanwhile, several Cougars moved up the national qualifying lists in their respective events on Day 3 of the Franson Last Chance Invite.Â
In the men's steeplechase,
Felix Perrier and
Nixon Korir went 1 and 2 APU all-time, respectively. Perrier competed at the Sound Running Track Fest where he clocked 8:44.49 to break the school record by over 5 seconds. This mark moves him up to No. 5 on the national qualifying list.
Nixon Korir ran a career-best 8:47.90 at the Franson Last Chance and moves up to No. 7 in the nation heading into the national championship meet.
In the last event of the evening,
Nixon Korir ran 8:47.90 in the men's steeplechase to break his own school record. Korir set the previous record last year at the Stanford Invitational with a time of 8:49.59. He now sits at No. 6 in the nation heading into the national championships.Â
In the women's 100m hurdles,
Nicole Warwick crossed the finish line in 13.61 seconds to secure first place. In the long jump, Warwick clinched third place with a leap of 6.53m (21'5 ¼"). This mark solidifies her as the second-ranked long jumper going into nationals.Â
Eliana Saunders cleared 1.74m (5'8 ½) in the women's high jump to claim first place. The mark moves her up to T-7 on the national qualifying list. Alongside her,
Nouhayla Errahili achieved a career-best performance in the high jump. Errahili cleared 1.71m (5'7 ¼") to meet her first provisional mark of the season.
Hannah Richardson threw 15.58m (51'1 ½") in the women's shot put to win the event. She remains atop the national qualifying list heading into nationals.Â
Up Next: The Cougars will now await the announcement of the official field of qualifiers for the NCAA Divison II Outdoor National Championships, which will be held May 23-25. Generally, 20 athletes are selected to compete in individual events, 16 are chosen for multis, and 14 relay teams compete. However, the number of competitors is not certain and can be adjusted to include fewer or more athletes. The field of competitors will be posted online early next week.Â
