AZUSA, Calif. - The multis wrapped up competition on day two of the Bryan Clay Invitational on Friday, while several Cougars made national qualifying strides on the track.Â
Nicole Warwick closed out a tremendous two days of competition in the heptathlon, as she won the top flight with a score of 5,927 points. Warwick not only set a new personal best by nearly 300 points, but it is also the third-best showing in NCAA Division II history and puts her in position to compete in the heptathlon at the Olympic Trials this summer. The top-18 scorers in the heptathlon across the entire nation will compete at the Trials, and Warwick's performance this week moves her into No. 3 on the Trials qualifying list. In addition to the heptathlon, Warwick is also in contention to compete in the long jump at the Trials, as she sits in a tie for No. 10 across the entire nation with a leap of 6.55m (21' 6"), which set the all-time DII indoor record and earned her the individual national title in the event at Indoor Nationals.Â
Competing alongside Warwick in the top flight of the heptathlon was Alysa Henry, who finished with 5,533 points to move into the No. 4 spot on the national qualifying list. Henry closed out her competition with a new personal-best 800m time, as she crossed the finish line at 2:22.40, and she also had the second-best javelin toss of the flight at 41.84m (137' 3").
Over in the men's decathlon, Lincoln Krog amassed 7,259 points to earn provisional qualifying status and move into the No. 4 spot in the nation thus far.Â
On the track, the men's team hit four provisional times, while Sofia Camacho added a provisional effort on the women's side in the 5K. Two Cougars earned provisional spots on the national qualifying list in the 800m, as Ben Sumner posted a season-best time of 1:50.46, while Nico Melendres also turned in a season-best performance at 1:50.45. Melendres moved into No. 9 on the national list, with Sumner right behind at No. 10.
In the 10K, Michael Schneider set a new personal record with a provisional effort of 30:18.16, which puts him within the top-30 nationally.Â
In the women's 5K, Sofia Camacho ran the distance for the first time in her Azusa Pacific career, and her time of 17:00.63 met the provisional standard and ranks her within the top-26 nationally.
Felix Perrier closed out day two for Azusa Pacific in impressive fashion in the final race of the night, as he ran in the fifth heat of the 5K invitational. Perrier not only set a new personal-best with a finishing time of 13:48.33, but it was a nearly 20-second PR and moves him up to No. 2 on the national qualifying list.
