RENO, Nev. — Azusa Pacific University Athletics wrapped up a strong two-day showing at the Nevada Battle Born Classic, hosted by the University of Nevada, highlighted by a near-national mark in the men's 4x400 relay and multiple performances that either met or flirted with NCAA Division II provisional standards.
Men's Highlights: Relay Pushes National Pace
Azusa Pacific's men's 4x400 relay team delivered one of the top performances of the weekend, finishing third overall in 3:15.60.
In the 400 meters, Max Franklin clocked 48.40, just outside the provisional standard of 48.28, continuing his consistent indoor campaign.
Over 800 meters, Nicolas Melendres led the APU trio with a 1:54.58 finish, while Erick Leal followed in 1:55.15 and Aaron Lakeman posted 1:56.99.
In the field events, Dejuan Walcott recorded a 6.95m leap in the long jump and 13.30m in the triple jump, while Nicholas Jordan cleared 4.60m in the pole vault. Cruz Torres added throws of 13.75m in the shot put and 14.34m in the weight throw to round out the men's effort.
Women's Highlights: Sprint Depth & Throws Dominance
On the women's side, Trinity Miller delivered one of the Cougars' top performances of the meet. Miller ran 7.57 in the 60-meter prelims, then a 7.51 in he semifinals, vaulting her to #25 in the NCAA. She later posted a 24.48 in the 200 meters, also under the 24.63 provisional mark for the fourth time this season.
Nevaeh Williams added a 7.71 in the 60 prelims and 24.88 in the 200 meters, while Jemma Nelson competed in both the 60 (8.15) and 60 hurdles (10.51).
In the shot put, defending National Champion, Hannah Richardson was the runner up with a throw of 15.37m while Jodian Stewart leaped to a #25 D2 ranking in the long jump with a leap of 5.94m.
In the hurdles, Luisa Fischer clocked 9.07 in the 60-meter hurdles, and Avery Coker added a 9.22 mark before later racing in the 200 meters (27.20). Jada Turner rounded out the women's performances in the 400 meters, finishing in 1:02.51
