Let the Fun Begin

The three-day Bryan Clay Invitational opened up competition in Azusa on Thursday, with several Cougars turning in impressive showings in the multis & distance races.

AZUSA, Calif. - The premier collegiate track & field meet is off and running, as the Bryan Clay Invitational started up on Thursday. Day one consisted of multis and distance races.

Azusa Pacific has four athletes competing in the multis this weekend, with Nicole Warwick and Alysa Henry both competing in group A of the heptathlon, while Lincoln Krog is in group B of the decathlon while Makel Hubbard is competing in group A.

Through day one of the heptathlon, Warwick has amassed 3,444 points through the first four events and is second in the group. Warwick was the top performer in the group on the track, as she started the day with a personal-best 100m hurdles time of 13.29 seconds, and she closed Thursday out with a 200m time of 23.86 seconds. Warwick is currently ranked second nationally in the 100m hurdles. Henry is currently 7th in the group with 3,253 points. Her day was highlighted by personal bests in both the 200m (25.02 seconds) and 100 hurdles (14.44 seconds).

Krog is currently second in group B of the decathlon with a score of 3,862 points through the first five events. Krog started and ended the day with career-best times on the track, opening with a 100m time of 11.07 seconds, and then running a 400m time of 50.21 seconds. In group A of the decathlon, Hubbard holds 3,586 points through day one. He wrapped up his competition on Thursday with a personal-best showing in the 400m, where he crossed the finish line at 51.88 seconds.

To end the evening, the Cougar distance squad had Nixon Korir and Jared Wright compete, Korir ran in the invitational steeplechase, while Wright raced amongst the third heat in the 10K. Korir, who entered the evening ranked 14th in the event, improved upon his time by nearly 13 seconds, as he posted a time of 8:57.13. The performance moves Korir up to No. 7 on the national qualifying list. Under the lights, Wright crossed the finish line with a 10K provisional time of 30:16.04, which puts him among the top-30 on the qualifying list.
