Box Score AZUSA, Calif. - #35 Azusa Pacific improved to 5-0 at home this season, following the Cougars' 5-2 win over Hawai'i Pacific. The win raised the Cougars' overall record to 9-1, and it snapped the Cougars' three-match losing streak to the Sharks, which spanned three matches last season.
Shannele Lopez and
Katherine Nguyen got things started for the Cougars at No. 3 doubles, where the pair improved their season record to 4-2 with a 6-1 win. After a Sharks win at No. 2,
Miruna Tudor and
Madison Kane clinched the doubles point for the hosts at No. 1, winning 6-3. Tudor and Kane have now won their last five matches in a row.
Tudor would take the first singles victory of the contest, winning at No. 4 by a 6-2, 6-0 tally. All seven of Tudor's victories this season were earned in straight-sets.
Vini Bautista followed up Tudor with a victory of her own, as she earned the No. 3 win by a 6-0, 7-6 score. Bautista is 7-2 overall, and she has held opponents to three or fewer games won in seven sets this campaign.
Julia Jordan would secure the win outright for the Cougars, as her 6-3, 6-4 triumph at No. 2 put the Cougars ahead by a 4-0 score. Jordan is now 8-1 at No. 2 this season, with five of those wins happening in straight-set fashion.Â
While the Sharks would get a couple of wins at No. 5 and No. 6, Kane earned a hard-fought win at No. 1. After losing the first set by a 2-6 tally, Kane retook momentum with a 7-5 win a tiebreak to force a third set. With the match already clinched, the third set was a super tiebreak, which Kane emerged with a 10-6 victory to add another point for Azusa Pacific. Kane is currently on a four-match win streak.
