LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Azusa Pacific men's and women's track & field competed at the Oxy Distance Carnival & Spring Break Classic. today. The meet was highlighted by Juan Diego Castro, Nixon Korir, Joey Rauwerda and Sofia Camacho's first place finishes, along with Castro's NCAA DII Provisional time in the 800.
On the men's side, Castro not only earned an NCAA DII Provisional time and first place finish in the 800, but he also ranks first in all of Division II in this event with a time of 1:50.29.
In the 1500, Nixon Korir also crossed the finish line first with a time of 3:50.22 which is a personal best for him. Felix Perrier earned a fourth place finish with a time of 3:51.02, while Jared Wright earned a career best with a time of 3:52.29 which earned him fifth.
Dider Sandoval earned another personal best in the 3000 steeplechase with a career best of 9:54.54, and Eric Perez earned a personal best time of 14:47.15 in the 5000.
In the field, Joey Rauwerda captured first place in the pole vault with a mark of 4.60m and Dejuan Walcott earned a career best and second place finish in the long jump with a mark of 6.76m. In the hammer throw, Brett Olson also earned a personal best mark of 44.05m to earn a sixth place finish.
On the women's side, Briseida Garcia Meza got things started in the 800 with a sixth place finishing time of 2:13.49.
In the 1500, Sofia Camacho crossed the finish line first with a career best time of 4:36.10, while Maia Fernando finished sixth (4:49.62) and Ashley Kodama finished 10th with a personal best time of 4:52.53.
