Diego Castro Joins Division II Record Books

Azusa Pacific track & field competed at the Mangrum Invitational in San Marcos, Calif. on Friday, where Juan Diego Castro ran the No.12 all-time performance in the 1500m.

San Marcos, Calif. - Seven Cougars achieved provisional marks at Friday's meet at Cal State San Marcos, with Juan Diego Castro's 1500m performance highlighting the day. 

MEN
Juan Diego Castro was the highlight of the day, clocking 3:40.93 in the 1500m to win the race and achieve his second provisional mark of the season. Diego Castro, a graduate transfer from OSU, ran the 12th fastest time in Division II history and the second-fastest time ever by a Cougar.

Raymon Harper bettered his national ranking in the high jump with a clearance of 2.07m (6'9½"). This season-best mark was good enough for first place and Harper sits at No. 3 in the country. 

Jermel Jones achieved his second provisional mark of the season, also clearing 2.07m (6'9½") in the high jump to tie his teammate for the No. 3 spot in the country. 

WOMEN
Sofia Camacho ran the fastest time in the nation this season in the 1500m. She crossed the finish line at 4:27.88 to achieve her first provisional mark as a Cougar with a career-best of over eight seconds.

Eliana Saunders also sits at the top of the nation after her performance in the high jump on Friday. In her first meet since finishing third at the NCAA Indoor Championships, Saunders cleared 1.73m (5'8") to hit the provisional mark. 

Freshman Maliyah Medley had over a two-second personal record in the 400m to claim first place. Her time of 55.49 leads her to the first provisional mark of her career and she sits at No. 2 in the country in the event.

Allie Brooks threw a career-best 42.23m (138'6") in the javelin to better her provisional standing and claim first place in the event. 

Up Next: The Cougars are back in action on Saturday, March 23 at the Aztec Invitational in San Diego, Calif., and the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational in Los Angeles, Calif.
