AZUSA, Calif. - The Cougars defeated Biola 6-1 today, their second win over the Eagles this season which secured 10 Cornerstone Cup points for Azusa Pacific.
Azusa Pacific wasted no time by quickly securing the doubles point via 6-1 wins from Katherine Nguyen and Shannele Lopez on No. 3 and Miruna Tudor and Madison Kane on No. 1.
Lopez started off singles with a straight-set (6-3, 6-2) victory on No. 6., her 13th singles win of the season. Bautista followed with another straight-set win on No. 4 (6-4, 6-0) and Nguyen then secured another straight-set victory for the Cougars at No. 5 (6-1, 6-3) to clinch the match for Azusa Pacific 4-0.
It was a battle at No. 1 once again as Kane and Colbeyshae Emery from Biola faced off against eachother earlier in the season. Kane came from behind once again, defeating Emery in three sets (4-6, 6-4, 6-1).
The Eagles earned a point on No. 2 with a three set victory to make the score 6-1, but Tudor closed it out on No. 3 via super tiebreak (7-5, 4-6, 10-8) as the Cougars defeated Biola 6-1.
By the Numbers: Tudor and Kane who are currently ranked ninth in the Nation in doubles earned their 11th win of the season at No. 1 by taking down Alexandra Mann and Brooke Fager from Biola who are ranked 16th. Kane who ranks 21st in the Nation in singles earned her team-leading 14th win of the season, continuing a 10 match win streak, while Tudor who is ranked 39th won her 11th match and sixth in a row. The Cougars are ranked 18th as a team and are 15-1 on the season with their last loss being 41 days ago at Point Loma.
