AZUSA, Calif. - #20 Azusa Pacific has now reached 15 wins in a row, after the Cougars beat Wesmont by a 7-0 score in just an hour and a half on Friday afternoon. The Cougars now 16-1 on the season, and they have won seven matches by a 7-0 score.
Vini Bautista and
Julia Jordan got things started in doubles at No. 2, where the pair rolled to a 6-0 win. Bautista and Jordan have earned three victories this spring in shutout fashion.
Madison Kane and
Miruna Tudor clinched the doubles point for the Cougars at No. 1, where they won 6-2. Kane and Tudor are now 12-2 this season, and they are unbeaten in their last five matches.Â
Azusa Pacific beat the Warriors in dominant fashion in singles, with the Cougars winning on all six courts in straight-sets. Kane beat Francesca Aguirre at No. 1 by a 6-0, 6-0 score, which is the third time this season in which she has won without dropping a game. Bautista finished right after Kane at No. 3, where she beat Sophia Ostovany 6-0, 6-2. Jordan was the match clincher for the Cougars, as she beat Olivia Madarang by a 6-1 score in the first set, and then shut out Madarang by a 6-0 tally in the second.Â
At No. 5,
Shannele Lopez came out on top by a 6-1, 6-3 score over Justie Spitzer, while
Hannah Mulbarger beat Liska Knight 6-0, 6-2 at No. 6. Tudor wrapped the match up at No. 4, where she took the first set from Sabina Salva by a 6-2 count, and then put the final exclamation mark on the day with a 6-0 second set.
Up Next: While the Cougars were scheduled to play Point Loma tomorrow afternoon in Azusa, the match has been postponed due to the forecast showing significant rain in the area. With the postponement, the Cougars next match will be on Wednesday, April 3 at Cal State Los Angeles.
