LONG BEACH, Calif - The cold and rainy conditions didn't stop the Cougars from achieving three provisional marks and 20 career-bests at the Beach opener.
WOMEN
Allie Brooks and
Molly Olson opened the weekend of competition with provisional performances in the javelin throw on Friday. Brooks threw a personal best of 42.17m (138'4") to achieve the first provisional mark of her career, while Olson threw 42.75m (140'3").Â
In the 200m dash,
Maliyah Medley and
Nevaeh Williams both had impressive performances. Medley clocked a time of 24.63 in her first time competing in the event for the Cougars, while Williams ran 24.80 for a personal record of over half a second.Â
MEN
On the men's side,
Raymon Harper landed a spot on the national qualifying list in the high jump, clearing 2.06m (6'9") to win the event.
Jermel Jones also jumped to a first-place finish on Saturday. On his fifth attempt, Jones jumped 7.69m (25' 2¾") to improve upon the provisional mark he achieved last weekend.Â
Up Next: Azusa Pacific will be competing indoors and outdoors next weekend. Eight Cougars are set to head to Kansas to compete at indoor nationals Friday, March 8 through Saturday, March 9. The distance squad will look to compete outdoors at the Oxy Distance Carnival & Spring Break Classic on Saturday, March 9.Â
