HONOLULU, Hawai'i – In something of a rarity this season, Azusa Pacific took an early lead in their doubleheader against Hawai'i Pacific. It would not last, however, as the Cougars dropped games 3 and 4 of their series against the Sharks, losing by finals of 10-5 and 11-0 Saturday afternoon in Honolulu.
Game 1: Hawai'i Pacific 10, Azusa Pacific 5
Azusa Pacific jumped out early, loading the bases with nobody out.Â
Spencer Rasmussen popped up to third base, but an attempt to double off one of the runners was thrown away, resulting in a run.Â
George Christison drove in a second with a groundout on the next play and the Cougars found themselves staked to an early 2-0 lead. It would be gone before their next at-bat, however, as the Sharks answered back with two in the first and another in the second to take their first lead of the contest.
Christison drove in another run in his next plate appearance, singling in
Mikey Easter to tie the game at 3-3. But Hawai'i Pacific would plate the next four runs of the contest, taking the lead for good. The Cougars loaded the bases in the 7th and Christison drew a bases-loaded walk for his third RBI of the game.Â
Omar Lopez followed with a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to 7-5, but that was as close as they would get, with Hawai'i Pacific scoring in 7 out of 8 innings at bat. Easter went 3-4 with a walk and three runs scored for the Cougars in the game, but batters 6-9 in the Azusa Pacific lineup went a combined 0-13 with a single walk.
Game 2: Hawai'i Pacific 11, Azusa Pacific 0
The Cougars fell behind early and often in game two, with the Sharks putting up four runs over the first two innings and never looking back. The box score from this game was not available at the time of writing and will be posted later.
Up Next:Â Azusa Pacific (5-14, 0-4 PacWest) continue their time on the island of O'ahu when they play their first-ever series against Chaminade, beginning with a doubleheader on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. Hawaiian Standard Time (5:00 p.m. Pacific).
