AZUSA, Calif. – Starting the week strong, Azusa Pacific won its match against Middlebury 4-1 to remain undefeated this season. After securing the Doubles point, Elias Emilio Walter, Soeren Grandke, and Max Schmidhauser all earned straight-set wins to lead the Cougars to a victory.Â
With the win, Azusa Pacific is now 15-0 this season and is 6-0 against Middlebury dating back to 2010. They are also 11-0 at home this year.
To start the match, Constantin Barth and Soeren Grandke won their match 6-4 at No. 3 doubles to extend the duo's winning streak to seven.
Although the Panthers earned a win at No. 2 doubles, Walter and Miha Velicki won their match 6-3 at No. 1 doubles to provide the Cougars with their first point of the match.
Moving on, Walter took a quick win at No. 1 singles (6-1, 6-4) to remain undefeated this season and give the Cougars the early 2-0 lead. Following suit, Grandke earned a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles to extend his winning streak to 14.
Although the Panthers took the next point at No. 4 singles, Schmidhauser clinched the match for the second time this season with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 6 singles.Â
