AZUSA, Calif. – Securing a win for the third day in a row, Azusa Pacific defeated Western New Mexico 7-0 on Wednesday. Every point earned by the Cougars was won in straight sets. With the win, the Cougars continue their 11-match winning streak and improve their overall record to 12-1.Â
Dating back to 2000, the Cougars also remain 10-0 against the Mustangs.
Although the Cougars switched some of the pairings up for the day, the duo of Vini Bautista and Julia Jordan remained intact as they won 6-0 in their first appearance at No. 1 doubles. Bautista and Jordan, who usually play at No. 2, move to 8-2 as a duo this season.
Madison Kane and Hannah Mulbarger partnered together for the first time this year and won their match 6-1 at No. 3 doubles to secure the doubles point for the Cougars. Katherine Nguyen and Shannele Lopez played out their match and also won 6-0.
In singles, all six individuals swept their matches in straight sets resulting in a shutout win for the second night in a row.
First, Kane took her match 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles to win her seventh singles match in a row. Securing the third point for Azusa Pacific was Lopez who played at No. 5 for the first time this season and won 6-0, 6-0 as well.
Hannah Mulbarger won her second singles match of the season with a 6-2, 6-2 victory on No. 4 singles to clinch the match for the Cougars.
Continuing their games, Bautista won her match 6-0, 6-4 at No. 2 singles followed by Katherine Nguyen with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 3. The Mustangs forfeited their match at No. 6 singles resulting in a win for Miruna Trudor and a 7-0 sweep for the Cougars.
