Box Score AZUSA, Calif. - #35 Azusa Pacific's win streak hit double digits on Tuesday afternoon, with the Cougars beating Texas Permian Basin by a 4-0 score. The Cougars are now 11-1 this season, and they have shut out six opponents thus far.
The Cougars wasted no time in taking early control of the match, with their No. 2 and No. 3 doubles pairings earning 6-0 victories. Vini Vautista and
Julia Jordan posted the dominant win at No. 2, while
Shannele Lopez and
Katherine Nguyen finished moments later at No. 3. Bautista and Jordan are now 10-2 overall together, while Lopez and Nguyen are unbeaten in their last three and hold a 7-2 record as a duo.
Madison Kane and
Miruna Tudor were up 4-2 on court No. 1 when Lopez and Nguyen clinched.
Lopez continued the Cougars' dominance at No. 6 singles, where she posted a quick 6-1, 6-1 victory. Lopez, who is 7-2 at No. 6 for the Cougars, has beaten opponents by a 6-1 or 6-0 score in 10 sets this season.
Kane would make it 3-0 Azusa Pacific, as she won a set by a 6-0 score for the sixth time this season, and she put her match to bed with a 6-1 second set victory at No. 1. Kane has won six consecutive matches for the Cougars.
Bautista stepped up as the match-clincher for the home team at No. 3, as she won her first set 6-2, and then sealed the overall victory for the Cougars with a 6-0 shutout in the second. Bautista has now won 10 matches this season, with six of those occurring in straight-sets. When the match was called due to the clinching win,
Julia Jordan was just a few points away from a sweep at No. 2, where she took the first set 6-1 and was up 5-0 in the second.
