IRVINE, Calif. - Azusa Pacific had little trouble handling Concordia early Saturday morning, as the Cougars earned a 6-1 win to improve to 5-1 this season.
The action, which started at 8:00 am in Irvine, kicked off with a clean sweep for the Cougars in doubles. All three pairings of
Madison Kane &
Miruna Tudor (No. 1),
Julia Jordan &
Vini Bautista (No. 2), and
Shannele Lopez &
Katherine Nguyen (No. 3) each earned 6-2 victories to capture the doubles point.Â
Tudor would put the Cougars up 2-0, winning in dominant 6-0, 6-1 fashion at No. 4. All four of Tudor's victories this season have occurred in straight sets. After the Golden Eagles captured a point at No. 1, Azusa Pacific would secure wins in the final four matchups.
Bautista, who was named the PacWest Player of the Week earlier this week, earned a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 3 for her fourth-consecutive win.
Julia Jordan won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2, as she is unbeaten in her last four.
Due to Concordia only having four courts, the No. 5 and No. 6 matches were played as eight game pro sets. At No. 5, Nguyen got back to her winning ways with an 8-5 win, and
Shannele Lopez closed things out with a 9-8 win, outlasting her opponent by a 7-5 score in the tiebreak. Lopez is currently on a four-match winning streak.
Up Next: On Saturday, March 2, the Cougars will host Colorado Mesa at 10:00 am.Â
