IRVINE, Calif. - Azusa Pacific continued its unbeaten start to the season, as the Cougars battled for a 4-3 road win at Concordia on Saturday afternoon. The Cougars are now 6-0, including 3-0 on the road.
For the fourth consecutive match, the Cougars had to battle back from dropping the doubles point, as the Golden Eagles won two of the three matchups. The lone doubles win for the Cougars was earned at No. 2, where
Soeren Grandke and
Brody Bohren earned a 6-4 victory.Â
Grandke leveled the score for the Cougars to start singles, winning his match at No. 4. After a 6-3 first set, Grandke wasted no time in the second set, rolling to a 6-0 win. Soeren is currently on a five-match winning streak. At No. 2,
Elias Emilio Walter gave the Cougars their first lead of the day, as his 6-1, 6-4 win put the Cougars ahead 2-1. Walter is unbeaten in all seven matches this season.
Concordia drew even at 2-2 with a win at No. 3, and then took the lead with a win on the No. 1 court.
Constantin Barth drew the match score even at 3-3, as he delivered a straight-set 6-4, 7-5 win to remain unbeaten this season. Barth's win turned the No. 5 matchup between the Cougars'
Brody Bohren and Concordia's Spencer Cinco into the match-decider.
Bohren beat Cinco by a 6-2 score in the first, but Cinco answered back with a 6-4 win in the second set to put the entire match on the third and final set. Bohren would step up and deliver for the Cougars, beating Cinco for the 6-3 triumph. It was Bohren's second-consecutive victory in three sets.
