SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Although the Cougars were able to come away with the doubles point, Azusa Pacific lost 4-3 against Point Loma on Saturday morning. Their record stands at 1-1 now.
To start the match, Madison Kane and Miruna Tudor won 6-3 at No. 1 followed by a win from Julia Jordan and Vini Bautista at No. 2 to secure the doubles point for the Cougars.
With the 1-0 lead heading into singles, the Cougars went searching for those final three points to close out the match. However, the Sea Lions struck first winning 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6 to tie up the match, 1-1.
Katherine Nguyen responded with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles to regain the Cougars' lead however, Point Loma's Quin Brady was able to tie the match back up with a win at No. 4.
At No. 2 Singles, Bautista bounced back from a first set 1-6 loss with a 6-4 win, however, she fell 2-6 in the third set as the Sea Lions took over the lead, 3-2.
Kane was able to secure the third point for the Cougars tying it up again with a close 7-6(5), 7-6 (4) win at No. 1 singles. With Kane's win, the match would then be decided at No. 3 singles.
The Sea Lions would get the win in the third set to ultimately take the match, 4-3.
Up Next: The Cougars will head north to face Westmont in Santa Barbara on Monday. The match is scheduled for 9 a.m
