AZUSA, Calif. - With Nationals set for the end of May in Colorado, Azusa Pacific is hosting the APU Franson Last Chance meet this weekend, giving athletes on final chance to earn a spot among the field of competitors at Nationals. On Friday, the Cougars produced a few provisional marks on the first day of competition.
Aaron Worrell highlighted day one in the men's long jump, achieving a big PR to move up the national rankings. On his third leap of the day, Worrell reached a new career-best of 7.56m (24' 9 ¾"). The mark moves him up from No. 38 nationally into a tie for ninth. Also in the long jump,
Isaiah Harris hit a new personal best distance, jumping 7.44m (24' 5") and surpassing the provisional standard. Harris is now ranked 23rd nationally.
In the men's javelin,
Logan Peyton threw a new lifetime-best distance to win the event, achieving a mark of 63.62m (208' 8") on his fifth attempt of the day. Peyton's PR allowed him to move up from No. 19 to No. 16 nationally.Â
In the field event on the women's side,
Nicole Warwick (long jump) and
Molly Olson (javelin), both ranked top-5 nationally in their events, won on Friday. Warwick leaped a distance of 6.28m (20' 7 ¼"), while Olson threw 45.49m (149' 3"). Warwick is currently second in the long jump (6.37m/20' 10 ¾"), and Olson is fifth in the javelin (47.13m/154' 7").
Alysa Henry hit a new PR in the long jump, reaching a provisional distance of 5.83m (19' ½").
While most of the action on the track were prelims on Friday, there was also mid-distance and a distance carnival to cap off day one. In the women's 800,
Eline Pinter ran a provisional time of 2:11.27. In the same event,
Philippine de La Bigne and
Briseida Garcia Meza, who are each ranked in the top-18 nationally, ran solid races of 2:09.56 (de La Bigne) and 2:11.18 (Garcia Meza). In the men's 5K,
Felix Perrier hit a new PR with a provisional time of 14:07.25, which ranks him 26th nationally.
