Track & Field Closes Out Three Meet Weekend

VINCE O'BOYLE TRACK & FIELD CLASSIC

Three first place finishes highlighted the day for the women's and men's track and field in Irvine, Calif. 

Jaylah Walker finished 1st in the 100 hurdles which she currently ranks 3rd in the nation with a time of 14.20. Kiayra Holmes also crossed the line first in the 400 dash at 56.06.

Alayna Verner earned two third place finishes in the 100, crossing the line at 11.93 and in the 200 with a time of 24.24, earning herself an NCAA provisional time and person best times in both events. 

Abby Keane earned a 3.40m mark in the pole vault, finishing fourth. (11 1 ¾). 

On the men's side, Leroy Kwateh earned a time of 54.39 in the 400 hurdles and Jermel Jones II picked up a second place finish in the triple jump with a 14.85 mark where he currently holds a ranking of 2nd in the nation. 

In the pole vault, Joey Rauwerda and Lincoln Krog earned a 4.52m (14'10) to earn second. In the 110 hurdles, Makel Hubbard turned in a time of 14.87 to earn third place.

"The sprints group had a pretty low key weekend after a big week last week." said assistant coach Andrea Blackett. "The group is looking forward to some rest this week and the preparation begins for the BC Invite and PacWest Conference meets coming up at home."

STANFORD INVITATIONAL & MIKE FANELLI INVITATIONAL

The distance runners closed out the weekend up in the Bay Area, with athletes competing at the Mike Fanelli Invitational and the Stanford Invitational. Over at Stanford, Ben Sumner highlighted the day in the 800, where he won his heat, which included four Division I runners, with a provisional time of 1:50.08. His season best effort moves him up the national rankings to No. 4.

Over at the Fanelli Invitational, the Cougars had athletes run the mile. On the men's side, Nixon Korir and Felix Perrier placed No. 1 and No. 2 amongst a field of 46 competitors. Korir won with a personal-best time of 4:14.88, and Perrier crossed the line right after at 4:15.54.
