First Place Strides in Seattle

The distance medley relay team for Azusa Pacific men's track took first place at the Ken Shannon Last Chance Invite in Seattle, Wash. tonight.

SEATTLE, Wash. - The Azusa Pacific men's track distance medley relay team of Daniel Bessolo, Nicolas Melendres, Ezekiel Nyberg and Ben Sumner competed in the Ken Shannon Last Chance Invite, taking home first place with a final time of 9:47.00. The time also now ranks second in school history and also ranks the team 12th in the nation. To close out the race, Sumner split 4:03.8 on the anchor, which is the fastest split he has turned in for this event.

"These guys poured everything into that one." said Sean Smith (Head Coach - Cross Country/ Assistant Coach - Track & Field - Distance). "We came here to race and feel fortunate we had the opportunity to showcase the gift God's given these guys." Smith continued, "Everyone did their part and I'm just really proud of them. You can't do much more than win, and if we keep doing that, faster times will come. We also had a lot of support back home too, getting messages from the coaching staff and team showcase the type of support we have while being up here even if we only brought a few dudes."
