FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Azusa Pacific continued their competitive 2022-23 Indoor track & field slate on day one of the Arkansas Qualifier in Fayetteville, Ark. on Friday. Nine different Cougars met provisional marks while Esther Conde-Turpin broke a school record in the 60m hurdles.
WOMEN
In the 60m prelims, Conde-Turpin turned in a time of 8.39 which is her personal-best and also breaks the school record that has been held since 2013. The school-record time also moves into No. 4 on the national qualifying list.
In the 400m, Alyna Verner finished with a time of 54.13 which places her 5th in the nation in this event, while Kiayra Holmes earned a season-best time of 56.63, also earning an NCAA Division II provisional mark.
Eline Pinter and Briseida Garcia Meza both earned provisional marks, with Pinter earning a personal-best of 2:13.70 and Meza finished at 2:14.25. Pinter also earned another personal best in the mile with a time of 4:55.09, earning another qualifying time.
To round out the long distance portion of the meet for the women, Kristilyn Hetherington turned in a personal best time of 10:17.87 in the 3000m.
In the long jump, Nicole Warwick earned a season best and qualifying mark of 19-10 1/4. And Eliana Saunders tied her personal best, clearing 5-7 in the high jump.
MEN
To open competition, Tyler Howard earned a time of 7.05 and Sid Varland turned in a personal best of 7.10 in the 60 prelims. Varland then earned a season best of 22.18 in the 200m.
In the 400m, Daniel Bessolo turned in a season best of 48.18 and Dominic Gonzalez-Shelmire also earned a season best and qualifying time of 48.41. Adonis Prince also earned a personal best in this event with a time of 50.17
In long distance, Ben Sumner earned a personal best of 4:07.07 in the mile which also ranks him 2nd in Cougar history. Felix Perrier turned in a personal best performance and earned a qualifying time of 8:17.24 which ranks him 3rd at Azusa Pacific in this event. Josh Velasco earned a season best of 8:21.24 in the 3000m.
In the field, Raymon Harper had a mark of 6-8 ¾ in the high jump, while Aaron Worrell earned a season best and provisional mark of 6-8 ¾ and Makel Hubbard turned in a personal best of 6-6 ¾. In pole vault, Joseph Rauwerda also earned a personal best and provisional mark of 15-9.
