HONOLULU, Hawai'i - No. 17 Azusa Pacific made quick work of Hawai'i Hilo, defeating the Vulcans by a 5-0 score on a rain-shortened match on Sunday afternoon. The Cougars improved their record to 3-1.
The Cougars swept the doubles matches, with Eleonora Liga and Vini Bautista winning 6-4 at No. 1, Madison Kane and Miruna Tudor winning 6-1 at No. 2, and April Wong and Katia Betancourt posted a 7-5 victory at No. 3.
All four of the Cougars' singles wins were in straight sets, with each player taking one of the sets by a 6-0 score. At No. 1, Eleonora Liga won 6-0, 6-2, Madison Kane claimed a victory at No. 2 (6-1, 6-0), Katherine Nguyen won at No. 5 (6-1, 6-0), and Katia Betancourt posted a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 6. Nguyen has now extended her unbeaten singles match streak to 19 matches. Betancourt's win marked her first singles match played since May 7, 2021, as she missed the 2022 season with an injury.
