AZUSA, Calif. -- Azusa Pacific men's and women's soccer were recipients of the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award, which was announced last week. In order to qualify for the award, a team had to post a composite team grade point average of 3.0 or better among all players on the roster for the 2021-22 academic year.
The women's program posted a 3.62 cumulative GPA, which earned them the Team Academic Award for the fourth-consecutive year. Of the 30 student-athletes on the Cougars' roster in 2021-22, 28 had a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, including 22 who finished at 3.5 or above.
"Our program takes pride in pursuing academic excellence, and this honor for the fourth-straight year serves as a reflection of that," said women's head coach Brooke Lincoln, "Discipline and commitment in the classroom often sets the tone in other areas of life, and it is encouraging to see so many on our team post impressive GPAs."
The men's team earned the award for the third time in a row after posting a cumulative team GPA of 3.39, which is the highest team GPA the program has seen in the NCAA era, besting their team best from last year of 3.3.
"We had a great year in the classroom," said men's head coach Dave Blomquist, "Our guys worked hard to achieve our goal of a 3.0 GPA or higher, and I am proud of them for accomplishing that goal. Our guys, along with a tremendous support staff here at Azusa Pacific, are well deserving of this recognition."
