IRVINE, Calif. - A group of throwers from Azusa Pacific went down to the Vince O'Boyle Invitational hosted by UC Irvine on Friday, as the rest of the Cougar squad will compete on Saturday for day two. On day one, the Cougars had athletes compete in the javelin and hammer.

For both the men's and women's squads, several athletes performed well in the javelin. Luisa Fischer had the best showing on the day, as she won the women's javelin with a personal-best mark of 44.56m (146' 2"), which also improves her spot on the provisional qualifying list and puts her at No. 9 nationally for the event. The Cougars' next highest finisher in the event was Molly Olson, who broke 40m for the first time in her career, finishing with a mark of 40.89m (134' 2"), which earned her a third-place finish.Â

On the men's side, Lincoln Krog placed fourth (47.96m/157' 4") and Seth Storlie was fifth (146' 5"). The Cougars also had a couple athletes compete in the javelin for the first time this season, with Nicholas Jordan and Aaron Worrell making their event debut at Azusa Pacific. Jordan finished seventh with a mark of 43.77m (143' 7"), and Worrell was eighth at 42.66m (139' 11"). Keniko Parham turned in a personal-best distance of 41.17m (135' 1") as well on the day.

In the men's hammer, Weston Ellis took third at 52.17m (171' 2").Â
