AZUSA, Calif. - No. 16 Azusa Pacific won its sixth-consecutive match on Friday afternoon, defeating visiting Concordia by a 5-2 score. The Cougars are 13-4 this season.

Miha Velicki and Elias Emilio Walter opened the action, with the duo winning the No. 2 doubles matchup by a 6-1 score. Velicki and Walter are now 10-2 when playing together, with all of their results coming at No. 2. Ryan Nuno and Leyton Bohren then clinched the doubles point for the Cougars at No. 1, winning 6-3. In this week's ITA rankings, Nuno and Bohren were ranked as the No. 28 best-pairing nationally with a 12-3 record.

In singles, the Cougars would surge to a 3-0 match lead behind straight-set wins from Walter at No. 4 and Sam Sippel at No. 2. Walter won both of his sets 6-1, 6-1, and Sippel battled for a 7-5 first set win, before shutting out his opponent in the second set for a 6-0 score.Â

Concordia would make the score 3-1 with a win at No. 5, but it was Nuno who put the match away for Azusa Pacific at No. 1. Nuno, who is ranked the No. 9 singles player in the country, took the first set 6-2, but dropped the second by a 4-6 tally. Nuno would respond in the third and deciding set, taking a 6-4 victory for the Cougars' fourth point of the afternoon. Nuno has now won his last five singles matchups, including two three-set victories which came against opponents ranked among the top-30 singles players in the nation.

The Eagles would add their second point of the match with a three-set win at No. 6, but Bohren would close out the match with the Cougars' fifth point of the contest, winning in three sets at No. 3 (6-2, 5-7, 7-6 (7-3)).Â
Up Next: Tomorrow, Azusa Pacific will be back in action when it hosts Point Loma at 3:00 pm. The match will mark the end of 12 consecutive home matches for the Cougars.
